Select the Correct Visit Type for More Accurate Notes
Tali uses the selected visit modality to generate documentation that more closely reflects how the encounter took place. For phone, video, and telehealth visits, this helps prevent in-person physical-exam language from appearing when no in-person exam was completed. The result is a note that requires fewer corrections and is closer to ready for review.
Select the correct visit type
All encounters are set to In-person by default.
Before starting a virtual visit, update the modality so Tali can generate the note using the appropriate clinical context.
The options available depend on your account:
- Ontario billing users: In-person, Phone, or Video
- Other users: In-person or Telehealth
Example: The same visit with different modality settings
Imagine a patient reports a cough during a phone visit and shares a home blood-pressure reading of 128/80. No physical examination is performed.
When the encounter is set to In-person
The generated note may include physical-exam language commonly used in an in-person note, such as:
Objective / Physical Exam
Lungs clear to auscultation bilaterally
Heart: regular rate and rhythm
BP: 128/80
Because the clinician did not examine the patient in person, the lung and heart findings would need to be removed.
When the encounter is set to Phone or Telehealth
The note is more likely to reflect what could actually be assessed during the visit:
Objective / Physical Exam
Deferred (phone visit)
Patient-reported home BP: 128/80
Tali keeps relevant information reported by the patient, such as home vitals, while avoiding findings that would require an in-person examination.

Selecting the correct modality helps Tali:
- Generate notes that better match the encounter
- Use appropriate wording for deferred physical exams
- Preserve patient-reported findings and vitals
- Reduce the need to remove inaccurate exam language
- Produce notes that are closer to ready for the patient chart
Your selected template and overall note-generation workflow do not change.
For the best results, confirm the visit type before starting the encounter and review the generated note before adding it to the patient chart.
